I want to read something good.  Great, even.

Books have been getting awards for many, many years. The awards are meant to recognize greatness in writing and greatness in the stories they have to tell.  But these days the lists are long, and perhaps people think that books on such lists are heavy. Intense. Intimidating.

A Great Book blog is my attempt to read as many ‘great’ books as I can. To discover for myself if I agree with the critics, panels, and publishers who award such honors and to attempt to point in the right direction those people who want to read something great – but just don’t know where to start.

There are many, many, many books whose titles don’t end up on these lists. And that doesn’t make them great. But everyone has to start somewhere!
